Approved Without Discussion

  1. Cat II - GEOG 102
  2. Category Reviews - None

Category Review

  1. GER 231 - German Dictatorships, Nazis and Communists - Western Culture
  • Sent back due to only one syllabus submitted - no honors, hybrid or other instructors’ syllabus; only one instructor completed form for what they had taught and indicated to contact Sabastian for additional information - this instructor is no longer at OSU, only Sebastian is still at OSU.

Action:  Provisionally recertify

Category Review - Follow-up

  1. ENG 313 - British Poetry - WIC
  • Numbers don’t add up on the chart; all other revisions were made;

Action: Recertify

  1. COMM 418 - Interpersonal Communication Theory & Research - WIC
  • Critical thinking is implied in the assignment descriptions, but it’s implied. Still no course specific learning outcomes (only Bacc Core outcomes).

Action: Recertify. Need learning outcomes that deal with course content

  1. FR 329 - Franco phone cultures in Film - Western Culture - Resubmission
  • Two documents were not uploaded for the reviewer to view. The Ecampus syllabus was included the second time, but it has the same problems as the on-campus syllabus. There is no description of the assignments and no connection between Learning Outcomes and the assignments. Student Conduct link is still incorrect. Refer them to the minimum syllabus link. No description of the final paper.   No differentiation between Honors and non-Honors section. They did assign a letter grade to the points; instructor did provide more information on the assignment but not the relationship to the assignments. Not enough information in the syllabus re: writing assignments. Need to be specific with assignments and activities linking to each outcome.
  • Reviewer inquired of the proposer how the course can be assessed if the content changes each time.

Action: Provisional certification - need to address above issues. Variation of course content would be less of an issue if information was provided related to how the learning outcomes can be achieved.

Matters Arising

  • Syllabus Requirements
    • Ask the Registrar’s Office to have only one student conduct URL so it’s always correct. If a faculty member searches the OSU website, there are multiple areas where the student conduct link can be found.
    • Alternatively, place it one Canvas so it appears for every course.
    • This would also apply to the DAS Statement and any other university-wide expectations.
    • Another suggestion was to include the current links on the Baccalaureate Core form so the instructor has all of them.
    • It shouldn’t be up to the BCC to catch these errors and enforce corrections. Heath will discuss these concerns with Janine Trempy and try to determine to whom these concerns should be addressed.

  • Category Reviews - Are there conclusions related to Category Reviews (Western Culture, Cultural Diversity and half of the WIC courses) that the BCC wishes to draw? Are the Category Reviews achieving stated goals?
