ANTH 209 (Western Culture/CD) Follow-up
-
Cannot follow instructions; syllabus inadequate – some syllabus improvements and some issues not addressed; didn’t address ‘discussion with one person’ issue; didn’t indicate how outcomes are assessed.
Action: Decertify
-
SOC 206 (DPD)
Action: Recertify
-
COMM 218 (Speech)
-
This is interpersonal communication, but there is only group communication.
-
They do emphasize oral speaking; the group communication was indicated on the form, but the multiple syllabi indicated individual speaking.
-
For 2019 BCC – maybe a broader committee (Comm, COS, CLA, etc. – those units requiring the course provide input) should revisit the CSLOs for the category. APAA should provide a workshop when this Category is next reviewed. APAA should determine whether the course outcomes are consistent across all sections prior to the next Category review. There has been a consistent lack of consistency across courses.
Action: Recertify
-
ECE 441-443 (WIC: discussion on class size plan)
-
About 125 students, 4 TAs trained in WIC writing and 1 faculty to be hired, plus Communications Director. There is dedicated training for the TAs; TA reading load is reasonable. This is a significant advance over where they were previously. Want them to be aware to keep to 1:25 ration. BCC recognizes many revisions to courses to align it to WIC expectations and outcomes.
Action:
-
ANTH 311
-
No information from Cascades; better connection between Learning objective, class assignments and course; OSU Ecampus offering is not clear. Assessment between OSU and Cascades doesn’t seem to exist anywhere.
-
Cascades syllabus – needs credit hours, Bacc Core Statement; updated DAS; student conduct link doesn’t work; request more of a connection to Ecapmpsu; needs to separate Bacc Core Learning Outcomes from Learning Outcomes; conduct link doesn’t work; DAS
-
In letter, attach Cascades document that provided Category Learning Outcomes and ask Corvallis Ecampus to do something similar.
Action: Recertify
-
ANTH 210
-
Several sections being taught by GTAs; provided training guide for GTAs; learning outcomes are now in syllabus and listed separately. Unsure whether learning outcomes in syllabus are clear to students; more syllabus alignment
Action: Recertify.

Change from 304 to 350. Syllabus misses the course specific learning outcomes; format unclear; finally found the required books; responses to questions are too vague; his comments are on the form
Action: Decertify

WIC resubmissions:
-
ART 411 – ready to recertify
-
DHE 370 – recertify and ask to change to lower cap
-
AG 421 – not resubmitted; there is a Cat II for change to the course, and the instructor plans to make the recommended changes within the Cat II materials.
-
GD 412 – haven’t separate outcomes and put them verbatim; will recertify once Vicki receives revisions. Waiting for syllabus revision.
-
CS 461, 462 – Vicki indicated it looks good and will approve; recommends Susie to approve. These are new courses.
-
Cat II – approve if class size is OK
-
KIN 381 – Three syllabi don’t have WIC outcomes verbatim; Penry syllabus does not say revision is required; all other changes requested have been made
-
BRR 403 – meets criteria; was skipped in 2014 review
-
CSS 315 - was skipped in 2014 review; syllabus does not indicate for which majors this satisfies the WIC requirement. Not clear what is meant by “personal sources”; Library Sources: What citation format is used? Please make clearer for students. Be specific about how critical thinking is incorporated in the course.
-
BCC – by acclimation – Rorie will follow Vickie recommendations
-
ECE 441, 442, 443 – materials revised and meet WIC criteria. BCC needs to determine if class size plan is sufficient.
-
Action – recertify if class size is OK
Recommend change in outcomes for this category to indicate that if it’s a speech course, they must demonstrate that they can speak. Kevin previously met with unit head, and there was no outcome. Request that Comm do a matrix to indicate which ones require individual speaking.
