2. Category Review:

  • ES 354 WIC
    • The syllabus is missing the Baccalaureate Core WIC (Writing Intensive Curriculum) statement.  There is also no information on the citation style students are expected to use. APA is the most likely option, but it should be stated in the syllabus so students can refer to it. The DFW (Drop, Fail, Withdraw) rate is high at 31%. The course does meet the overall word count requirement for a WIC course, but it is broken up between assignments, rather than focusing it on one assigned paper. Recommend provisional recertification with adjustments made to the syllabus.  They will have until the end of the year to resubmit their syllabus with the changes. If approved by the ex-officio, the course will be recertified.
  • Mus 102
    • The grade distribution skew heavily into the A’s; the course is possibly too easy.  There were nine syllabi submitted for five instructors, apparently to cover the various music genres the class covers. The syllabi were of varying quality; some were missing their baccalaureate core statements, their outcomes, or alignment statements. They were also missing connections to the baccalaureate core learning outcomes. The DAS (Disability Access Services) statement and Student Conduct link need updating.  Recommend decertification but will allow resubmission by the end of October to address grade and syllabus issues.
  • PS 300 WIC
    • There are lots of writings and revisions in the course.  On course does not appear to meet the informal writing requirements.  Rough drafts of papers are considered to be the informal work.  The Baccalaureate Core Committee will recommend an example to model the informal writing assignments.  Other syllabi are missing their connections to learning outcomes.  Provisionally recertified.
  • H 333 (follow-up)
    • Initially, there was confusion on what category the course fell under.  They believed it to be a synthesis course but the catalog states they are a social processes course. Was decertified but allowed to resubmit after the confusion was cleared up.  There are still problems with the syllabus not connecting class activities to learning outcomes. Will provisionally recertify until the remaining syllabus issues are addressed.
  • ENG 205
    • The syllabus is missing it’s DAS statement and needs an updated Student Conduct link.  Will recertify if they send in a new syllabus with updated DAS statements and Student Conduct link.

3. Cat II:

  • No Category II courses were reviewed.
