Announcements

  • The Council welcomed new Research Council member, Professor Rob Stone.
  • Shan volunteered to be the Council representative for the new Research Risk Committee.
  • Staci shared that the Office for Sponsored Research and Award Administration (OSRAA) will submit their budget plan to Sherm Bloomer on March 30.

The primary agenda item was discussing the Research Equipment Reserve Fund (RERF) proposals. RERF funds may be used to acquire, repair, renovate, or improve equipment directly used for research. Siva shared that $400,000 has been allocated for the award this year.

Process for Research Equipment Reserve Fund Reviews

  • Council members will have four weeks to complete their reviews (April 15). The Council will meet a week later to discuss.
  • A primary and secondary reviewer will be assigned for each proposal. Council members may also request an outside reviewer with content expertise (faculty within OSU) to serve as a third reviewer.
  • At the review meeting, the primary and secondary will present each proposal, the Council will discuss and then vote. The Council’s votes and recommendations will be submitted to the Office for Sponsored Research and Award Administration (OSRAA) which will make the final decisions.
  • Staci noted that the Council should carefully review the proposal guidelines before December 2018 and submit recommended changes to OSRAA. The next call for proposals will be sent out in January 2019.

RERF Review Criteria and Score Sheets

  • The Council discussed the review criteria and score sheets. Susan was asked to make several changes to the score sheets. She will distribute an edited sheet to use by the end of the day.

Review Assignments

  • Council members selected proposals to review. Everyone was assigned between four and five proposals.

Next Steps for the Research Equipment Reserve Fund Reviews

  • Siva will send out the Spring Council meeting times shortly.
  • Susan will send the Council the revised score sheets and an Excel database that details assignments and directions for reviewing proposals.

At the next Council meeting in early April, post docs will be discussed and the Provost will be asked to speak with the Council.
