Follow up

  • Contemporary Global Issues (CGI) letters went out for the 20 classes who did not submit with a March 20 deadline.
    • Some faculty had retired and not forwarded on requests
    • Units have been very supportive in getting materials sent in.
    • Every college will have a designee that will get the review requests and delegate from there. Initial requests, reminders and decision notices will be sent to this designee.
    • Kaplan Yalcin has volunteered to be the designee for College of Earth, Ocean, & Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS). Names were given for potential contacts within other units. The co-chairs are looking for faculty members who are at the Associate Dean level to be the designees.
  • Working on a timeline for next year’s review reminders and due dates and who will receive documents – will get it approved with the Executive Committee.
    • Initial request template (drafted) – send in April
    • Reminder template – sent in June
    • July due date notice template
    • Final reminder with a two week window to submit in September to college designee
    • Notice of official decertification for courses not submitted per the notices above – sent in October, notice sent to Office of the Registrar to have courses removed from catalog for following Academic Year (AY)
    • Category recertification letter – rolling basis
    • Category decertification letter with due dates (final revisions must be approved by the committee due April 15) – rolling basis Category Reviews begin immediately in the Fall.
      • Strict May 1st deadline to update or add/drop courses to the catalog for next year.
  • Ideally send next year’s review letters out by the end of dead week/finals week.
    • Templates will be made for letters.
    • Letters for Double-Listed course reviews are being prepared for Associate Deans.
    • Units will be given the option to remove one of the categories from double-listed courses so they do not have to submit any additional materials. Courses that do not adequately meet both outcomes will be delisted from one of the categories at the committee’s choosing. Courses that elect to remove one of their own categories may choose they category it remains in, provided it adequately meets the outcomes.

Course Proposal

  • MUS 104
    • Submitting for Western Culture – meets all requirements
      • Approved
  • ART 371
    • It has been submitted for Science, Technology and Society (STS) but it does not meet the category
    • The syllabus is at least 20 years old and the materials are incredibly out of date.
    • The unit did not liaison with Sociology.
    • Previously reviewed and sent back siting multiple concerns.
      • Deny; does not meet the STS category
      • If they want a sociology course, they will need to liaise with someone in the Sociology unit.
    • GEOG 103
      • Tabled until next week.

Contemporary Global Issues Category Review

  • GEOG 330
    • May come back during the double-listed review
    • The course is also in CPS/CIM for changes.
    • Nearly all enrolled students are in CEOAS
    • WIC designation may be discouraging enrollment from students in other units.
      • Recertified with notes about dual-listing concerns.
  • GEOG 350
    • How they assess Learning Outcomes (LO) 1 and 2 needs to be stated more explicitly. Connections between assignments and outcomes are unclear.
    • The story map is on a topic of a student’s choosing – the lack of specificity means that it is unclear if this assignment meets the LOs. Needs to insure it is related to the course and connects to the outcomes.
      • Decertify, pending revisions to the Story Map assignment or clarification on how it meets the outcomes
  • HDFS 447
    • Tabled for next week
  • HST 317
    • Unclear if it is a 3 or 4 credit course. It meets in a 4 hour block, but only has 75 credit hours of work. It should be 120 credit hours to be a four credit course.
    • Minimal homework assignments contributes to the lack of credit hours.
    • The syllabi are very different but they do all seem to fit the category.
    • Other usual minor issues are present.
    • 50% of enrolled students receive an A
      • The lack of outside reading and assignments make it evident that this is not a 4 credit 300 level course.
      • Decertified
  • HST/REL/WGSS 378
    • Tabled until Spring Term

Science/Writing Intensive Curriculum (WIC) Follow-up

          • Tabled for next week
    • BI 204/205/206
      • The matrix added is not the standard, but it is not necessarily an issue. The committee would prefer some consistency, though.
      • Next series is BI 22X – reviewers will coordinate and review before the final decision will be made
        • Needs to be done before May 1.
        • 22X will not allow COB or CLA students in this series.
          • No rationale provided
            • Tabled and will be reviewed in conjunction with BI 20X series
    • CH 231
