Course Proposals

  • Discussion Needed
    • WSE 240 – Biological Science
      • They now have nine lab activities but the statements within the labs seem more like homework assignments, rather than lab problems.
      • Five course outcomes were added. Two of which are course specific outcomes.
        • They also have several module learning outcomes separate from the Baccalaureate Core (BC) outcomes and the course outcomes.
      • Makes notes in the syllabus that this is also a Physical Science course but it is not marked as such in CIM. Likely they just need some coaching on developing verbiage.
        • Motion to rollback to incorporate activities in at least some labs that test the calculations developed in preparation, clarify bacc core fulfillment statement, update CIM fields to match syllabus and add comments on course specific learning outcomes, seconded. Motion passes with ten in favor, none against. One abstention.
    • ANTH 284 – Biological Science
      • The BC statement and matrix were added. They need to remove the reference to physical science from the BC statement.
      • Assignments were not really elaborated upon, it was not really stated how they are assessed or how they meet the outcome. What concepts are covered by the assignments and how do they relate to the outcomes?
      • Several liaisons were added but it doesn’t look like many people replied.
        • Responses for liaisons are not required for a proposal to move forward.
          • Motion to rollback and ask that they clarify BC fulfilment statement for biological science and identify concepts addressed in course activities, seconded. Motion passes with ten in favor, none against. One abstention.
    • ANTH 383 – Contemporary Global Issues (CGI)
      • They did clarify the writing assignment as requested, but they did not answer the other questions asked by the committee.
      • They did add the missing information to the Ecampus syllabus.
        • Motion to roll back and ask that they address course fit within CGI, seconded. Motion passes with nine in favor, none against. One abstention.
    • RNG 470 – Contemporary Global Issues
      • Existing course requesting to be added to CGI.
      • Has a recommended prerequisite – is the prior background in the field required to do well in the course? Will students not familiar with the field be successful in the course?
      • Conceptual fit – Pastoral Systems of the World
        • They need to show how pastoral systems of the world qualifies as a contemporary global issue.
      • They have a good schedule and dedicate course time to assisting students.
        • Motion to rollback to clarify recommended pre-requisite and contextualize fit in CGI, seconded. Motion passes with eight in favor, none against. Two abstentions
    • WR 4/566 – WIC
      • Has a good rubric and does a good job of meeting the WIC outcomes.
      • Set up as a hybrid course – it’s not clear what kind of online teaching there will be.
        • It was clarified that the course will actually no longer be a hybrid and the teacher is aware that he will need to adjust the syllabus to meet the four credit hours.
      • What major is using this course?
        • Both School of Writing, Literature & Film majors will be using this for their major.
          • Motion to rollback to align contact hours and schedule with four credit hours, seconded. Motion passes with eight in favor, none against. Two abstentions.
    • MUED 400 – WIC
      • Will be discussed next week.
