Transfer Baccalaureate Core Classes

  • Double/triple listed courses have been delisted. There has been some ripple effects to community colleges in that some of the courses will not be transferrable to the Baccalaureate Core (BC).
    • Proposal: Effective summer 2021, several courses will have updated Baccalaureate Core category designations. OSU will honor the prior BC designation of courses completed through Spring 2021 for students transferring those courses in through September 2023. Courses will not automatically be articulated with the prior BC designation. Students matriculating into OSU between summer 2021 and September 2023 will need to work with their Academic Advisor to ensure their transfer course applies correctly to the previous BC category. Post September 2023 all transfer courses will be articulated in congruence with current year BC category designation.
      • Clarification – only affects courses taken up to Spring 2021
  • They are working to develop a CORE report that the advisors can use to insure students are getting the BC credit.

Course Proposals

  • Discussion Needed
    • HST 201 – Difference, Power & Discrimination
      • No appropriate Ecampus syllabus and some concerns whether the different instructors will follow the sample syllabus.
        • Motion to send back citing issues with the Ecampus syllabus; seconded. Motion passes with 11 in favor, none against. One abstention.
    • HST 203 – Difference, Power & Discrimination
      • No appropriate Ecampus syllabus and some concerns whether the different instructors will follow the sample syllabus.
        • Motion to send back citing issues with the Ecampus syllabus; seconded. Motion passes with 11 in favor, none against. One abstention.
    • WSE 240 – Biological Science
      • Will be discussed at the next meeting.
    • ANTH 383 – Contemporary Global Issues (CGI)
      • The course is well developed and has excellent readings.
      • It’s not clear why the course is in the CGI as it seems like a much better fit for Science, Technology & Society (STS).
      • There are three required writing assignments, only one of them is CGI and students only need to do one of the writing assignments, meaning they could conceivably not take the CGI topic.
      • The only other CGI focus of the course is the guest lecturer in the last week of the course.
        • Motion to send back to ask proposer to clarify how the course meets CGI criteria as the course appears to be an exemplary STS course, and to make sure all students are doing a writing assignment that fit the category; seconded. Motion passes with 9 in favor, none against. One abstention
    • PS 455/555 – Contemporary, Global Issues
      • Learning Outcome (LO) 1 has a vague statement for how the outcome is met but doesn’t offer specific examples as to how.
      • The on-campus syllabus does not have the matrix and is, overall, vague on how outcomes are assessed. Does not seem to meet LO 3 at the undergraduate level.
        • The 1,250 word writing assignment is done through a group presentation, which does not meet the requirement.
      • The Ecampus portion of the course differs a lot from the on-campus course. Ecampus also has much older reading assignments.
        • Motion to send back citing multiple issues; seconded. Motion passes with 12 in favor, none against. One abstention.
    • AEC 122 – Social Processes & Institutions
      • Syllabus looks very good.
      • Do the answers in CIM need to match the syllabus?
        • It’s been sent back and the syllabus has since been updated, but they have not updated their CIM form.
          • No attempts to individually address and assess each LO.
          • Keeping an accurate record in CIM is important.
            • Motion to roll back and request they update CIM to reflect the changes made to the syllabus. Motion passes with 10 in favor, none against. Two abstentions.
  • No Discussion Needed
    • BIOE 495 – WIC
      • Approved with no discussion needed
    • ENG 216 – Literature & the Arts
      • Approved with no discussion needed
    • FILM 145 – Literature & the Arts
