  1. Canvas and BCC Learning Outcomes – Mum Matteson
  2. Mum has been working with TAC so that any Bacc Core course will be able to pull down their course outcomes and attach; they have been Incorporating assessment rubrics into Canvas
  3. Faculty can submit requested changes to Canvas
  4. Mum displayed online abilities in her sand box.
  5. Faculty will be invited to take workshops to learn to use the tool. The system will work for grades kept in Canvas.
  6. Potential challenges:
    • Faculty may question why they have to select Categories, and why isn’t it preprogramed because their courses are known.
    • There will be confusion in terms of how mastery meeting and how those are quantitatively evaluated – faculty will get aggregate numbers.
    • The system seems to assume that assignments are mapped to learning outcomes. Faculty completing the workshop will learn how to make a question bank and align outcomes to the question bank.
  7. This could do something that almost no one does in the review, which is separating or differentiating achievement of the learning outcomes from the grade on the assignment. Faculty could align assignments with outcomes.
  8. Mum questioned what a usable scale would be. How many different possibilities? There four 4 colors. 0-5 is a good range option; zero is more intuitive than a 1. It appears that the preference was 0-3: 1= approaching, 2= meets, 3= exceeds
  9. It will be difficult for faculty to make changes.
  10. Is there an understanding of what percentage of faculty or what percentage of courses are using Bb/Canvas? TAC may have this information. All Ecampus courses will be on Canvas by Fall 2015.
  11. Mum is willing to pilot test WIC courses for next year.

  1. New/Changed Course Proposals

    • 92382   ENG 322    LA and CGI - Brad
      • This is request move from 3 to 4 credits. All extra work is designed to be accomplished outside of class. The same in-class time is retained (MWF 50 minutes) with an additional 12 hours outside of class.
      • Most of the revisions relate to cleaning up the verbiage. There is no response to question 4 “…primary attention to assessment…” but question 5 is answered in question 5.
      • Reviewer indicated that the syllabus was incomplete due to lack of percentages; it needs to be cleaned up.
      • The course relates to post-9/11 events
      • Request is to be included in both the Perspectives and Synthesis categories; the proposal meets syllabus requirements for both categories, and appropriate written assignments are included. Perspectives are intended to give broad perspective, probably broader than deep; synthesis courses are designed to pull in ideas from different areas and synthesize them.
      • The request is generally OK with minor clean-up issues.

Action: Kevin will return the proposal requesting minor revisions.

  • 91654   MS 130       Fitness           (Mckenzie)
    • Because the unit added the statement meeting Bacc Core,  the reviewer recommends approval
    • Action: Kevin will approve.
  • Others, if ready
