88259    ES 233         DPD                                   Resubmit

  • Not discussed

92112    PS 346         Cultural Diversity                  Resubmit - Gerd

  • The schedule was removed, but that was not the intent of the BCC; the prior LBCC instructor is no longer teaching the course and all LBCC links have been removed; the reference to PS 399 has been omitted;
  • Kevin noted that the new instructor will get this syllabus and, likely, the list of reading materials as the starting point. Is the BCC comfortable with that level?

Action: Kevin will ask them to resubmit the proposal when the actual syllabus has been created and there is an instructor to teach the class.

Biodiversity Causes, Consequences and Conservation

  • The BI course designator is being dropped, but BI 349 will still be taught as Z 349 from Fall 2015 forward.

Action: Kevin will approve.

Please refer to the 5/11 assignment email; note that proposals 92706 and 93812 are not due until the May 27 meeting, but we will discuss them if they are ready in this meeting.

Category Review – WIC

  • NE/RHP 474 Lori Kayes
    • There is a Category II proposal for 474/475 be the WIC course; due to course designators, there are four different curriculum proposals and one syllabus.
    • They have turned their capstone into their WIC; ‘provisionally graded’ was a concern. Then the proposal was resubmitted. Concerns; the writing issue was fixed and now requires 2,000 words of writing; sometimes the class enrollment may be up to 50; uncertain who is doing the grading – there is not a true rubric. If grading by different faculty, they must ensure that the grading is consistent.

Actions:

  • Kevin will approve the course proposals. Comments will include that the class size is OK now, but will need additional instructors if enrollment reaches 50 students; it may be good to note the lower enrollment requirement for WIC courses; clear grading criteria on writing will assist with grading coordination. This fixes all concerns on Category review. Originally submitted materials didn’t satisfy qualifications, but the new materials do satisfy qualifications.
  • Regarding the Category review – give them a full recertification noting problems, but indicate that the BCC will recognize that there is a curricular revision that was just approved.

Other Business

  • I will try to have draft letters for WIC courses discussed to date ready for review.
