Category Review

  1. ENG 313 – Studies in British Poetry – WIC

Action: Postponed until the May 16 meeting when Vicki Tolar Burton will be present.

  1. ANTH 108 – Western Culture Study Abroad
  • Issue of what type of discussion can occur with only one student – reviewer wants them to address this issue. How are discussion boards handled with only one student? Additionally, how the Bacc Core criteria is assessed is an issue - there is no clear, transparent method for this to occur.
  • Because it’s unclear how assessment is being made, the reviewer felt that the coordinator needs to think more about assessment or redesign assignments so the alignment to student learning objectives occurs. How does it relate back to the category outcomes?
  • Is study abroad a good fit with the Bacc Core? Students are experiencing different parts of Western Culture, but how is it assessed?

Action: Decertify (effective Summer 2017)

Category II

  1. NMC 100 – New Media and Culture – Social Processes and Institutions
  • Grading is done exclusively on quizzes. The assessment response mentions class assignments, but no class assignments are included on the syllabus. No description of learning objectives. There needs to be more connection to materials covered on quizzes and how it relates to learning objectives.

Action: Request revisions; reviewer will re-review prior to end of term if it’s resubmitted.

Matters Arising

  • DAS Statement – The DAS Statement changed effective April 14. If proposals are submitted prior to April 14, the new version is not required. One reviewer is mentioning the new DAS Statement to proposers, regardless of submission date.
