  • Category Review Discussion
    • Econ 428 was resubmitted with errors fixed; recertified.
    • ENG 318, 319
      • The committee discussed some of the issues that would be addressed in the letter sent back to the department.
        • The form answers are somewhat vague and do not accurately address the questions.
        • A three year provisional certification is suggested in order to check on their progress.
        • It was suggested that they follow up on the Western Culture element as well as it was not updated from their previous year’s review.
  • Category Review – Writing Intensive Courses (WIC)
    • PHL 407
      • All submitted syllabi are missing statements about how course outcomes link to the Baccalaureate Core (Bacc Core) learning outcomes
        • One syllabus is also missing course learning outcomes, in addition to missing Bacc Core outcomes
      • There were no examples of assignments submitted. It was suggested that the committee ask the instructor to submit some examples for review.
      • It was noted that the students’ first draft was only 1500 words, with the final draft being 2000 after revisions.  This does not meet the 2000 word requirement for papers and the instructor will be asked to make the first draft 2000 words to comply with WIC standards.
      • Provisionally recertified.
    • HSTS 415, 417, 419
      • Problems include; no syllabus for all campus types, no list of majors the course contributes to, no linking of learning outcomes to Bacc Core outcomes, missing the Bacc Core statement, does not meet WIC requirements, no critical thinking outcomes listed.
      • All three courses recommended for decertification.
  • Category II
    • WGSS 223
      • Was submitted back in April but has only just come to the Bacc Core committee.  It consists of two categories and one member agreed to review both.
  • Changes to Standing Rules
    • In order to add members from OSU-Cascades, it is suggested that the number of representatives from both College of Liberal Arts and College of Science be dropped from four from each college, to three from each college, allowing two members from OSU-Cascades to join.
    • It is also suggested that an ex-officio from Ecampus be added as a non-voting member to represent online courses and answer any questions.
    • Rationale that will be provided to the Faculty Senate for voting:
      • The original membership structure outlined presumed the BCC split into two working committees and ensured sufficient representation from the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Science on both working committees. Currently, the BCC does not separate into working groups and, therefore, the additional member from each of these colleges is unnecessary and prevents additional perspectives from other colleges. Additionally, as both OSU-Cascades and Ecampus grow and take on larger roles in offering baccalaureate core courses, and these offerings have implications for Corvallis and the availability of courses as well as overall university accreditation, the need for representatives from these units has grown.
    • Rorie motions to approve the changes to the Standing Rules and send them to the Faculty Senate for a vote; seconded; motion carries.
