Intro, Reminders

  • Student roadshow is March 2 from 5:00-6:00 PM

Update on Roadshows

  • Status
    • There have been around 20 roadshows. The co-chairs appreciate the help of committee members who volunteered to moderate.
    • This process is about students – it’s important to emphasize this point in the roadshows
    • We have to represent the process – we’re listening to everyone, not just working in our own unit’s interests. Everything coming up has to be considered – Arts & Humanities, Bookends, Quantitative Math, etc.
    • The roadshows have, overall, been going very well and have brought in a lot of good feedback.
    • How can the committee better promote the feedback form for faculty who are unable to make the roadshow?
      • McKenzie has been emailing unit leadership after each roadshow to let them know that recordings of each roadshow is available for anyone who was not able to attend. They can also then find the feedback form online.
        • Only a small amount of feedback forms have been submitted.
    • 143 students have signed up for the upcoming student roadshow
      • Brandi Fuhrman, Lori McGraw, Mary Chuinard, Tim Jensen and Erin Bird volunteered to assist with moderating the student roadshow.
    • Is there a mechanism in place for tracking which college/major the students belong to? I suspect we wouldn’t want a particular demographic—no matter where from the university they come from—to represent the entire student body.
      • Part of the registration form is for registrants to put their unit/major.
      • We can also set up a poll listing all the colleges and open it up for students to take during the meeting.
    • How did the smaller leadership sessions go?
      • Leadership tends to focus on other things than faculty, but it’s been cordial and thoughtful. They’ve provided good perspective around their colleges and the culture of the units.
      • Time varied with the leadership groups, depending on their availability.
      • Different colleges have different focuses and not all are involved in undergraduate education. Overall, they have been supportive and appreciative of the work the committee has done.
  • General thoughts and observations
    • Two things have become clear during these conversations – faculty would like the committee to look more into
      • Health and Wellness
      • Communications
        • The committee will launch two more workgroups to look into what the university needs and wants.
    • There’s been a lot of discussion around the bookends.
      • They need to be fleshed out a bit more – more detail about what they would entail.
      • Some colleges already have orientation and capstone courses as part of their degree program and are concerned about how the bookends might conflict. Will students be doing two capstone projects?
    • How can we embed things into multiple places?
      • Badging and directed paths might come back up
    • Should WIC and DPO be included with the Bacc Core?
      • discipline specific DPO at the upper division was embraced strongly in Engineering
    • The committee should also probably focus more on Complex Global Issues and Cultural Literacy as related to the transfer map.
    • What learning outcomes might be barriers to students transferring into OSU?

Workgroups

  • Committee members volunteered for either the Health and Wellness workgroup or the Communications workgroup.

Meeting adjourned at 2:57 PM
