Report Back from University Budget Advisory Committee (UBAC)

  • Tuition recommendations
    • Considering three scenarios
  • Three workgroups – differential tuition, budget model, student fees
    • The UBAC would like to move to a simpler fee structure
    • Students are having difficulty determining the cost of their total tuition with the current fee structure.
  • Will the significant changes to the Baccalaureate Core cause a wave of proposals to come through the Budgets & Fiscal Planning Committee (BFP) or will changes be handled centrally?
    • Implementation will take a year or two so work is expected to potentially hit the BFP in smaller waves.

Program Proposal

  • Education Graduate Major (EDD, EDM, MS, PhD), Key #353 – Change Graduate Major
    • It’s a fairly complicated proposal and the budget narrative and spreadsheet seem to be missing.

Action: Motion to send back and request budget narrative and spreadsheet; motion seconded and passed with 5 votes in favor, 0 votes in opposition and 0 votes in abstention.

  • Geography Graduate Major (EDD, EDM, MS, PhD), Key #397 – Change Graduate Major
    • Name change proposal.
    • They claim no budgetary impacts.

Action: Motion to approve the proposal; motion seconded and passed with 5 votes in favor, 0 votes in opposition and 0 votes in abstention.

Other Business

  • The BFP chair has decided to expand his knowledge of how budgets work at the college level. He’s interviewed about 40 people (deans, associate deans, college business managers, unit leaders, accountants, administrative managers for units) and compiled a preliminary report that has shared with the Faculty Senate President. The report will be shared with the BFP, as well.
