Update on Gen Ed Status – Alix Gitelman, McKenzie Huber

  • Alix shared the structure of committees that are focused on implementation.
  • There is a Steering Committee and a Core Team. The Core is broken up into smaller committees:
    • Learning, Outcome, Criteria & Rationale (LOCR)
    • Policy & Processes
    • Pedagogical Support & Development
    • Operations
    • Organizational Change Management
      • Catalog changes, transfer credits, common course numbering, etc.
  • The Faculty Senate President sits on the Steering Committee and the Faculty Senate President-Elect sits on the Core Team
  • Course development – Summer 2023-Winter 2025; Initial set of courses approved through CIM – Winter 2025; Gen Ed goes live – Summer 2025
    • Program level implementation – Biological & Ecological Engineering does double-dipping and is planning to wait to see what kind of courses will be offered before implementing changes at the program level. They may need to put in their own program proposals to make changes. Ideally, an additional year may be needed to allow programs to adjust.
  • Course (re)design
    • Course Adaptation and Design Institutes (CADI) – mandatory for everyone adapting or design a course in the Gen Ed
    • CADI – one day institute – stipend
  • Considerations for Colleges:
    • Handling questions about buy-outs, overload
    • Addressing changes in SCH

Program Proposal

  • Public Policy Analysis Graduate Certificate, Key #827
    • The resources line of the budget is left blank, but they do otherwise seem to have done a lot of research on the demand of the program.
    • The budget narrative better explains how they’re using their current resources to manage their costs in development of the program:
      • E and G funds and Ecampus revenue will be used to support the new program and cover expenses.

Action: Natasha motioned to send the proposal back and ask that the originator include the resources information from the budget narrative into the budget spreadsheet, seconded. The motion passed with 5 votes in favor, 0 votes against, and 0 votes in abstention.

  • Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate Major (MS, PhD): SUSPENDED, Key #501

Action: Filix motioned to approve the suspension, seconded. The motion passed with 5 votes in favor, 0 votes against, and 0 votes in abstention.

Other Business

  • Discussion for Spring – Can the committee consider proposals that include changes to the gen ed program/curriculum
