Review and Discussion

  • Engineering Science #102102 – New Degree Program

Note: This is a resubmission

  • Outlined the responses to the questions sent by Drew Ibarra.
    • Responses were deemed sufficient by the committee.
  • Will support for students come from the central advising office?
  • Program is 44 courses with 6 new courses being developed – no new tenure track faulty are being hired.
  • There are no student support services.
  • Who is developing the new courses? Are there accreditation requirements? Does it require a tenure track faculty members to develop courses or is it alright for non-tenure track faculty to develop them?
  • What is the additional cost for course development?
    • Drew motioned to approve, seconded; approved with no abstentions.
      • Forward the remaining questions to the submitter as something they may need to answer when the program comes to the Faculty Senate for approval.
  • Creative Writing #106904 – New Degree Program
    • There is a sudden jump in year 4 tuition. Is this incremental revenue? How is it calculated? Is it calculated appropriately
    • Expenses were well addressed
    • Drew will send a request asking how they are calculating the 4-year revenue and then do an email vote.
  • Instructional Design #101468 – New Certificate Program
    • There is no information about revenue.
    • It appears as if students who are pursuing a masters will also get the certificate. It it’s not clear yet if it’s automatically granted or if it depends on courses taken.
    • Budget-wise, it looks appropriate
    • Drew made a motion to approve; seconded and passed with no abstentions. Income will need to be incorporated into the report.

Other Business

  • Drew will pose the following question to Sherm Bloomer – What is the Budget & Fiscal Planning Committee’s role in identifying courses attempting to game the system?
