Curricular Proposal Reviews

  • The shaded proposals on the attached Excel file are those pending approval by the Curriculum Council co-chairs. The remaining proposals are included to indicate what is coming up.
    • FSY 440 – The reviewer reached out on November 16 about the student performance evaluations. The originator has not responded.
    • FST 470 – The reviewer had no questions or concerns.
      • Is six hours for two credits of lab standard? Meili confirmed there was no issue.
    • WR 529 and WR 350 – Does it have the same duplications between learning outcomes, course title and description as three of the other WR courses?
      • All the WR proposals will be held for further discussion.
    • H 564 – The reviewers have found no issues with the course, and it has been approved.
    • PT 769 – The reviewers have found no issues with the course, and it has been approved.
    • PT 795 – The reviewers have found no issues with the course, and it has been approved.

Common Course Numbering (CCN) – Rebecca Mathern

  • Special Process for Updating Courses
    • The Transfer Council is a state body working on this issue. They are informing the colleges which courses will receive a common course number.
    • A new proposal will be submitted through CIM for each CCN course. The Curriculum Council (CC) will receive a spreadsheet listing all the courses for the following academic year, plus programs and courses requiring administrative updates. After approval, a course termination proposal will be submitted for existing courses.
      • A ‘Z’ designator will indicate commonly numbered courses.
      • An ‘HZ’ designator will be used for Honors courses.
      • Up to 25% of the outcomes can be modified and will need to be approved by the CC.
        • The spreadsheet will be sent out once it has been submitted, likely sometime in the next two weeks. Before end of the calendar year at the latest.
        • The spreadsheet is expected to have anywhere between 8-15 courses listed.
        • Will there be significant changes to the course learning outcomes (CLOs)? The Transfer Council is focusing on the most commonly transferred courses – most of these courses have aligned somewhat organically over the years between institutions. It’s likely, in the next couple of years, that more changes will be needed between courses that are not transferred as often.
        • Faculty representatives will be on the sub-committees reviewing/revising CLOs. Rebecca is confident that faculty will be engaged in the process.

Action: Ping moved to support the proposed workflow; the motion was seconded and passed with 13 votes in favor, 0 votes against and 0 abstentions.

Report from Registrar – Rebecca Mathern

  • The Course Learning Outcomes project is moving ahead, and the Registrar’s Office appreciates the feedback from the Council.

Report from Curriculum Management – Janice Nave-Abele

  • No update.

Report from Co-Chairs – Ping-Hung Hsieh, Eric Ianni

  • No report from the co-chairs.
