Both the rationale and a message from the Registrar indicating that the AI course designator is available are linked from the CPS at the end of the proposal under ‘Documents’.
This proposal was first discussed on June 7, 2019 but, because concerns were identified related to the AI Course Designator request, this item will be discussed in October 2019.
  1. Category II Proposals
The proposals in the attached files will be approved following the October 18, 2019 meeting. Please review the Curriculum Council proposals in the Curriculum Proposal System (CPS) – the purpose of this is to do a peer review of Category II proposals; all courses have already been approved by the relevant college representative. See Information Items below for instructions for accessing the CPS.

The below proposals were discussed on October 11, 2019:

  • #104305 (AG 445) – Social Media Advocacy in Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources
    • Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources are in the course title and referenced extensively in the proposal justification, but there isn’t any reference to either in the syllabus. How is this course specific to Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources? This proposal needs liaison from Forest Ecosystems and Society – Troy Hall and a professor were suggested; Carol will send to FES; add Michele as a liaison.
  • #107902 – ALS 145 – The only liaison listed was Jesse Nelson – it was suggested to add Jessica Beck as an additional liaison.
  • #107433 and #107432 – Carol will determine whether a College of Education liaison is needed; also, request liaison from the PAC program.
  • #105667 – This proposal describes a Capstone course, but there are no pre-requisites. Rebecca and Terry were on the recent program review – and interesting thing about the program is that they don’t have many required courses. How to limit to only juniors or senior registering?
    • Michael stated that the current course is being cross-listed with GEOG 452/552, which is undergoing a change proposal; there are no pre-requisites.
      • How will you limit students into the course?
      • Rebecca noted that there was discussion among various units related to a course approved last academic year, and stated that it met a requirement that is in conflict with a policy. Proposal #10464 was approved and #107754 has been proposed to fix the issue.
  • #? – Mina – valuable for PAC? Janice – all proposals must liase PAC 203 and 204. Carol suggested requesting liaison from the College of Education.
  • #107539 – Pre-requisites are COB also. Doesn’t appear to be an accessible minor.
    • The minor indicates that it is accessible to non-business majors, but the courses are not accessible outside COB. How will registration be handled? Pre-requisites will keep them out of the courses. Carol will indicate red text to originator.
  • Mina will forward to Carol concerns related to other proposals.
  • #107695 – AEC 455/AEC 555 – Needs liaison from CPHHS; process error in system – contact the existing liaison and request they contact Janice Nave-Abele.
  • #107157 and #107162 – Needs liaison, even within the College of Business (COB). Prem (originator) was the only liaison; Jim Coakley was requested as a liaison but did not respond.
  • #107163 – Need liaison, even within COB. Prem (originator) was the only liaison; Jim Coakley was requested as a liaison but did not respond.
  • #107902 – Add Jessica Beck as a liaison.
