March 23 Recap:
-
Summary from Carol McKiel:
-
This is a strong proposal with good partnerships; pipeline from COCC; the need was well stated; EOU indicated nervousness, but they are five hours away; and the proposal takes care of the need of the local population to get into education careers. All the classes are in the system in some way.
-
Concerns – ED 394 has the same learning outcomes as ED 594 – Carol requested why it isn’t 494/594 slash class, but hasn’t heard back – she will follow up on this issue.
-
HECC proposal – She wasn’t sure that the faculty course load had enough detail – the proposal mentions adjunct faculty, but there aren’t details.
-
Regarding the budget, it doesn’t indicate part-time or term-to-term hires, it only mentions full-time faculty. In Year 4, the budget is reduced – why is a growing program reducing the budget? Why is there no mention of administrative supervisors to observe student teachers?
-
Student growth chart in proposal – the indicated growth doesn’t make sense, and it doesn’t seem to account for COCC transitions; a standardized attrition rate should have been included.
-
The proposal touts a diverse work force, but there is not a lot of clarity of diverse recruiting.
-
Also missing is what type of unrepresented student support will be available. Not a reason to hold up, but perhaps mention the concern.
Action: Carol will develop a list of concerns for John to send to proposers; this will, hopefully, be discussed again on April 4.
