Re: Difference, Power and Discrimination Task Force
The integration of the Difference, Power and Discrimination program into the entire academic program
at OSU continues to be of a concern. During 1998, considerable controversy occurred over reduced
funding and support for this program. After much discussion, and with consultation with the
Associate Provost of Academic Affairs, the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate has decided
to establish a Task Force to develop a list of recommendations related to the future direction of the
DPD program.
Alexis Walker has agreed to Chair this task force. The other members include:
Dwaine Plaza, Sociology
John Lee, Mathematics
Janet Nishihara, Educational Opportunities Program
Robert Burton, Mathematics
Erlinda Gonzales-Berry, Ethnic Studies
Ex-officio members include:
Susan Shaw, Women Studies and Interim Director of DPD
Leslie Burns, Undergraduate Academic Programs
Kenneth Williamson, Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering and
President of Faculty Senate
The charge of the Task Force is to develop a list of recommendations by the end of winter quarter,
2000. Details of examples of items to be considered are available from Alexis; however, it will be the
Task Force's responsibility to generate what they consider to be all required items necessary for the
ultimate success of this program. Upon approval of the recommendations by the Faculty Senate, the
report will be forwarded to the President, Provost, and Associate Provost for Academic Affairs.
Thank you for your willingness to participate in the development of these recommendations.
