The OSU Outreach and Engagement Award (Formerly OSU Extended Education Faculty Achievement Award through 2009) recognizes significant and meritorious work which enhances reciprocal learning with our students, partners and stakeholders through outreach and engagement activities. The recipient receives a plaque and $2,000.

  • Tenured, tenure-track, clinical track, fixed-term and professional faculty

Award Criteria

Selection criteria include:

  1. unusual effort to ensure the quality of the outreach and engagement experiences;
  2. high standards for the rigor and currency of program content and the level of learner performance and reciprocal university learning;
  3. direct and significant potential for impact upon and involvement with external learners, OSU students, and the University itself;
  4. original and scholarly contributions about the field of outreach and engagement;
  5. evidence that the candidate's scholarly contributions have enhanced the effectiveness in extending Oregon State University to the people of Oregon and/or improving the capabilities of the university

Nomination Process and Submission

Following the instructions completely will ensure consideration of the nomination.

The nominator shall submit the Cover Sheet, Nomination Form and the complete submission packet in one PDF via the Qualtrics Submission Form. Do not begin entering information on the Qualtrics form unless you are ready to submit the nomination – the form CANNOT be saved and finished at a later time. The submission packet will include evidence that the nominee meets the criteria, as well as (1) position description indicating breakdown of FTE allocation; (2) educational program evaluations; (3) three letters of support*; and (4) the nominee’s vita highlighting contributions to outreach and engagement.

*One letter shall be from a current or former student, learner or client. The second shall be from a current or emeritus faculty member. The third letter may be from current or emeritus faculty, clientele, current or former students, alumni, or others who can provide evidence of the nominee's achievements. The letters of support each shall not exceed two single-sided pages using at least 12 pitch and 1" margins. Signatures on the letters must be included.

Please note, the nominator is not eligible to submit a letter of support.

The award criteria can be addressed on separate pages for each criteria or within the letters of support. Please be certain that the nomination materials, particularly the three letters, address the criteria.

When organizing the PDF for submission, please ensure that the cover sheet is on the first page, with the nomination form as the second page. Evidence of supporting criteria (if provided on separate pages) and letters of support must be attached in the order indicated above.

Additional information submitted with the nomination will not be considered; please include only requested information and refer to the guidelines when organizing submission packets.

Selection Process

Nominations will be reviewed and selected by the Faculty Recognition and Awards Committee, a member of the Advancement of Teaching Committee and a member of the Outreach and Engagement Council. Committee recommendations will be made on the basis of the information submitted; the committee does not solicit additional information.
