The OSU Professional Faculty Excellence Award recognizes exceptional service to the university community by faculty who serve in non-academic units or whose service in an academic unit is not defined within the traditional academic categories of teaching, research, or extension. A $1,000 cash award and plaque/certificate will be provided.

Eligibility

  • Eligibility is extended to individuals with professional faculty rank as well as those with academic rank who serve in non-teaching roles (e.g., office managers, Facilities Services managers, fund-raisers, academic advisors, technical support faculty, coaches and athletic administrators, counselors, doctors and health care administrators, librarians, etc.). While such faculty may distinguish themselves in the traditional categories for a portion of their work, the bulk of their work must be in one of the many other areas vital to the functioning of the university. Nominations may be submitted by any faculty, staff, or student member of the university community.

Award Criteria

Selection criteria include:

  1. exceptional job performance;
  2. direct and significant involvement with and impact upon students, faculty, staff, or other university clientele;
  3. innovation or creativity in work;
  4. recognition by peers and colleagues of the quality of the nominee's work and service;
  5. professional achievement or activities;
  6. participation in university and community affairs;
  7. evidence of continued professional growth

Nomination Process and Submission

Following the instructions completely will ensure consideration of the nomination.

The nominator shall submit the Cover Sheet and the complete submission packet in one PDF via the Qualtrics Submission Form. Do not begin entering information on the Qualtrics form unless you are ready to submit the nomination – the form CANNOT be saved and finished at a later time. The submission packet will include evidence that the nominee meets the criteria, as well as (1) nomination letter*; (2) three letters of support*; the nominee’s vita; and (4) position description indicating breakdown of FTE allocation.

Required letters: Each of the below letters shall not exceed two single-sided pages using at least 12 pitch and 1" margins. Signatures on the letters must be included.

   * Letters of Support: One letter shall be from current faculty. The second shall be from a current or emeritus faculty member. The third letter may be from a student, alumni or others who can comment on the nominee’s qualifications.

   * Nomination Letter: The Nominator shall submit a Nomination Letter.

The award criteria must be addressed in the letters. Do not submit separate documentation related to the critera.

Additional information submitted with the nomination will not be considered; please include only requested information and refer to the guidelines when organizing submission packets.

Selection Process

Nominations will be reviewed and selected by the Faculty Recognition and Awards Committee. Committee recommendations will be made on the basis of the information submitted; the committee does not solicit additional information.
