Introductions

Review and Approval of September 14, 2023 Minutes
Action: Justin Fleming moved that the September 2023 minutes be approved as submitted; seconded. The motion passed with no objections.

Debrief of Faculty Senate Committee Chairs Onboarding & Tools

  • Surveys and questionnaires must be reviewed by Executive Committee (EC) before dissemination (they generally need materials for review seven days prior to the EC meeting). Our EC liaison is Justin Fleming.
  • The Professional Faculty Interests Committee (PFIC) has its own website with agenda, minutes, and meeting attendance.

Guest Speaker

  • Raven Chakerian, Faculty Recognition & Awards Committee
    • Described the university awards available to professional faculty and the nomination/award process.
      • The group discussed non-monetary awards like extra days off or other creative ideas for recognition, like an event for Professional Faculty (PF) that just recognizes PF.
      • The group discussed the process behind developing a new award with a PFIC tie-in. All Faculty Senate (FS) awards are presented at University Day, but there are other awards presented at University Day, too.
        • To do: Check with the University Day person to see if there’s a process for awards. Incorporate a link to the list of awards on our survey on the topic of awards/recognition.

Survey Update

  • Given today’s conversation, the next survey topic will be “awards and recognition.” Share with Faculty Recognition & Awards Committee when done.

Items for the Good of the Order & Open Discussion

  • The group discussed developing a PF website that featured awards, etc., and whether we might add links about the PFIC on other university websites.
  • Electronic microscope open house! November 14, Linus Pauling Science Center, suite 145.
  • Next meeting will be Thursday, November 9, 2023, in 104 Ballard Hall.
